Georgia is a year-round destination with a diverse climate. Each season has its own advantages. Spring is warm and sunny, with occasional rain in early April. Summer is hot, especially in August. Autumn is cooler than spring. Winter brings snow to most regions except for Tbilisi, the capital.
Spring (March, April, June)
In March, the average temperature is about 15 °C (59 °F), making it too cold for swimming in the Black Sea but perfect for excursions and relaxation at one of Georgia's many resorts. By April, the weather becomes almost summer-like, with temperatures rising to 20 °C (68 °F). By the end of May, the air temperature reaches 25 °C (77 °F), and the Black Sea warms up to 20 °C (68 °F), marking the official start of swimsuit season. The second half of April and May is the best time to visit Georgia in spring.
Summer
Summer in Georgia is notably hot, even in June, making it ideal for family vacations due to the abundance of comfortable, quiet leisure activities. July sees average temperatures of 27 °C (81 °F), with occasional spikes to 30 °C (86 °F). August is the hottest month, with daytime temperatures ranging between 30 and 35 °C (86-95 °F). The sea remains warm (24 °C; 75 °F), and occasional subtropical showers provide relief. August is also a great time for hiking.
Autumn
September marks the beginning of the Velvet Season, a favorite among many travelers. The sea remains warm from August, but the intense heat has dissipated, with temperatures not exceeding 27 °C (81 °F). This month is suitable for any activity offered by Georgia. In October, the swimsuit season ends, but the weather remains pleasant, with temperatures between 18 and 23 °C (64-73 °F). While rains become more frequent, they are unlikely to spoil your vacation. November is still warm, but showers become more common, appealing mainly to those who enjoy thoughtful walks and the romance of a cloudy sky.
Winter
December is a wet and cold month in Georgia, with temperatures hovering around 10 °C (50 °F) and daily rainfall. Main tourist activities shift to the mountains. January continues similarly, with growing interest in ski resorts. February remains cool, with slightly lower temperatures than December or January, and persistent rain and high humidity. Occasionally, cold fronts bring snow, but this is rare. By the end of February, the weather improves, and locals eagerly await spring. If you visit Georgia in winter, don't just stay in Tbilisi—be sure to explore popular ski resorts like Gudauri, Kazbegi, Bakuriani, or other high-altitude destinations.
A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter Georgia generally must first obtain a Georgian visa, which is placed in the traveler’s passport (a visa blank) or issued electronically (electronic visa). However, Georgia's visa policy has become comparatively liberal, allowing citizens of 98 countries to enter without a visa. For more information, please contact us or visit this website.
